Following the favorable conclusions of a health Technology Assessment report the Swiss mandatory health care reimbursement fund will continue to reimburse some alternative medicines such as homeopathy alongside with phytotherapy, neural therapy, anthroposophically extended medicine and traditional Chinese medicine – phytotherapy.

The design of some analysis implemented for arguing the report does not compare the results of a therapy but it only compares the individuals who were included in. And everybody already knew that individuals who trust homeopathy and parallel medicine are, at baseline and by their simple way of life, in a better shape and have less bad conditions than individuals who do not attach importance to this kind of medicine.

As a direct result of the Swiss homeopathy HTA (written by homeopaths), the Swiss Government withdrew reimbursement of homeopathy.
Homeopaths then agitated for a referendum and this came out in favour of reimbursement.
As a result, the Swiss Government said that it would temporarily reimburse homeopathy again. This new temporary period ends in 2017 unless homeopaths can provide scientific evidence for the efficacy of homeopathy by 2015.
Can you say what homeopaths are doing to provide that scientific evidence?

So, if I have well understood, there is a wide discrepancy between the way the fans of homeopathy interpret the HTA report and the interpretation of it that is made by the Swiss government officials in their synthesis included in the PEK report. It looks like the classical dilemma of the half full or half empty glass!
We now know it wasn’t even an HTA but simply a limited literature review and the English version was published ‘without any consent of the Swiss government or administration’.

Have you discovered what homeopaths are doing to come up with the scientific evidence they need to present to the Swiss Government in 2015 or homeopathy will again be removed from the state reimbursement scheme in 2017?
If only more state health services and private health insurance companies would recognise the benefits of complementary medicinal approaches!
