American soul pearls

12 Jun

These are two songs of pure soul where east coast and west coast rhyme together.

first:  I Need a Dollar (How to Make It In America) from Aloe Blacc

second: The First song of the Lincoln Lawyer movie soundtrack. If you love Michael Connelly you will love the movie Lincoln Lawyer (in french: La défense Lincoln). Michael Connelly wrote mulholland drive and the poet. There was yet another movie with Clint Eastwood that was inspired by a precedent novel written by M Connely: blood work (créance de sang).

Bobby “Blue” Bland – Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City:

And its Hard rock White Snake version :

The lyrics of these two songs evoke the difficulties for workers to live in the big american cities especially when they were of African origin.  These periods succeeded to the slavery period when working conditions in the countryside were even worse. Now the 44th president of the US is an African American.  In between it’s only history.

I NEED A DOLLAR

I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
And I said I need dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me

Bad times are comin and I reap what I don’t sow
hey hey
Well let me tell you somthin all that glitters ain’t gold
hey hey
It’s been a long old trouble long old troublesome road
And i’m looking for somebody come and help me carry this load

Bridge:
I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Well i don’t know if I’m walking on solid ground
Cause everything around me is falling down
And all I want – is for someone – to help meee

I had a job but the boss man let me go
He said
I’m sorry but I won’t be needing your help no more
I said
please mister boss man I need this job more than you know
But he gave me my last paycheck and he sent me on out the door

Bridge:
I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
I said I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
And I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me
Well i don’t know if i’m walking on solid ground
Cause everything around me is crumbling down
And all I want is for someone to help meee

What in the world am I gonna to do tomorrow
is there someone whose dollar that i can borrow
who can help me take away my sorrow
maybe its inside the bottle
maybe its inside the bottle
i had some good old buddy his names is whiskey and wine
hey hey
and for my good old buddy i spent my last dime
hey hey
my wine is good to me it helps me pass the time
and my good old buddy whiskey keeps me warmer than the sunshine
Hey Hey
your mom of mayhem just a child has got his own
Hey Hey
if god has plans for me i hope it aint – written in stone
Hey Hey
because i’ve been working working myself down to the bone
and i swear on grandpas grave i’ll be paid when i come home
Hey Hey

Bridge:
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need hey hey
And if I share with you my story will you share your dollar with me
come on share your dollar with me
go ahead share your dollar with me
come on share your dollar give me your dollar
share your dollar with me
come on share your dollar with me

AIN’T NO LOVE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in the heart of town

Ain’t no love and it’s sure nuff a pity

Ain’t no love cause you ain’t around

When you were mine

Oh, I was feeling good

Cause you lovlied up

This whole nieghborhood

But now that you’re gone

You know the sun don’t shine

From the city hall to the county line

That’s why I said

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in the heart of town

Ain’t no love and it sure is a pity

Ain’t no love cause you ain’t around

Every place that I go

Oh, it seems so strange

Without you there

Things have changed

The nights are cold

There’s a blanket of gloom

Another trick I saw

In my lonely room

I said ain’t no love

In the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in the heart of town

Ain’t no love, ain’t any pity

Ain’t no love cause you ain’t around

And now that you’re gone

Oh, the sun don’t shine

From the city hall to

The county line, I said

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in the heart of town

Ain’t no love, it sure is a pity

Ain’t no love cause you ain’t around

Cause you ain’t around

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in this great big old town

Ain’t no love and ain’t it a pity

Ain’t no love cause you ain’t around

Ain’t no love in the heart of the city

Ain’t no love in the heart of this town
